This wine was aged in all second-year and older barrels, hence the name "Zero New Oak."
Designed to showcase more of our estate fruit and less oak, the 2008 Zero was fermented with wild yeast and wild ML strains. Approximately 30% whole clusters were included in the fermentation.
The 2008 vintage was an unusual one all across the North Coast. Severe frosts caused an average of 40% crop loss, followed by summer wildfires all around the state. Because of the frosts, we only produced a few hundred cases of this wine.
The 2008 Zero displays the cherry and raspberry fruit typical of our vineyard, along with some of the smoky, savory tones of the vintage. This wine is a perfect pairing with all things formerly considered taboo and off-limits for Pinot Noir: Cambozola or other blue cheeses, steak, BBQ, teryaki, and more make this wine taste sweet and lucious. We've truly enjoyed playing with food pairings for the 2008 Pinots, and we hope you do too.
